Round 2 of the BRSCC Mazda championship took us to Snetterton.
Having had to skip testing due to monetary issues as well as an over prescription of work from University qualifying was going to be a worrying and interesting event. Having been sorted into group 1 any place in the top 5 would have been a result. For most of the session I was placed around 4-5 before on the final I was able to improve my lap time and boost into second place giving me P3 for race one.
Having got a clean start and settling into 3rd the plan was to chase down the top 2 which occurred over a couple of laps. Having made a pass reliving Brian Trott of second, Oliver Allwood was the next person on the list. With 8 minutes to go Allwood made a mistake into the first hairpin which allowed me to slip through, but the lead was not going to be held for long. Exiting onto the back straight slipping back to second became inevitable as a lack of straight line speed combined with slipstream allowed Allwood to pass retaking the lead. This was repeated 2 more times throughout the closing stages of the race resulting in a second-place finish and my best result of the weekend.
Having started second which is therefore the outside, slotting into 3rd on the first lap was a good result. With around 6 minutes to go, a couple of late braking moves past Trott and then resulted in the lead. Well the lead for all of 30 seconds before the AB team mates came flying past as soon as we hit the back straight. Due to this reoccurring issue 3rd place was the optimal outcome, but this wasn’t to be. On the final corner of the last lap Trott made an error which blocked my exit off the corner resulting in my MCR team mate Mike Comber as well as Jason Greatrex to pass both of us relegating me to 5th place across the line.
With progress needing to be made up from race 2 I was able to push my way back into the top 3 by half race distance yet a small tangle with Trott dropped me to 11th which was the finishing result.
A difficult weekend but I hope to come back stronger at Cadwell Park which is a personal favourite! A big thanks to Competition supplies, my dad and MCR for their continued support and help, also congratulations to my team mate Mike comber on his podium result!
